Halloween Dance, October 26, 2009

Here are a couple of pictures from the October 26 lessons & dance night.  We encouraged as many people who could to dress up.  In the picture on the left is the crowd of students taking cha-cha lessons, and on the right are the ones who wore Halloween clothing of one kind or another. We took other pictures, but there's only so much room on this site.  Suffice it to say that our club is doing well, with enthusiastic students and dedicated first-year members continuing to come, take lessons, and dance. 

Register for our 34th Annual Spring Dance, March 5-7, 2010

Thanks to charter member Rusty Kunkler, whose records for the club go back to the beginning in 1976, we have recently discovered that our first spring dance was in 1977 and not in 1981, as was previously thought.  Thus the next spring dance weekend will be our 34th.  It will be March 5-7, 2010, at Memorial Hall in Joplin.    We are pleased to announce that Adrienne & Larry Nelson, of Dysart, Iowa, have agreed to be clinicians for the weekend.  The Nelsons are choreographers of numerous dances, including club favorites "Rock & Roll III" and "You're the One that I Want." They are also well-known in the Ozarks area, having conducted clinics in Eureka Springs and other locations near Joplin.  Plans have been finalized.  Click here to download the flyer, and here to download a MapQuest map of Joplin. 

Club Adds 16 New Members at Annual Dinner

On July 13 the Tanglefooters Dance club held its annual July dinner/new members awards/club meeting/dance.  We are very pleased that 15 of our students joined the club and received their badges that night.  Actually, there was a 16th new member--Collin Osiek--being held by Nancy Roark. Collin is the son of club members Andrea and Jason Osiek and has been "dancing" with Tanglefooters ever since his conception.  He is in fact most at peace when on the dance floor with his parents, held in a sling. 

These new members have been taking lessons since the middle of September and have progressed farther than an previous class in the history of the club, having learned the basics of cha-cha, waltz, rumba, and foxtrot.  They are scheduled to start learning tango and 2-Step during the summer months.

At the annual club meeting, the club voted to drop "Round" from the official club name and set summer hours, following the lead of the former Universal Round Dance Council, now know as the International Choreographed Ballroom Dance Association.  Also Tanglefooters will serve as the Host Club for the upcoming International Choreographed Ballroom Dance Association convention in Joplin, July 22-25, 2009.  For more information, click HERE.

Our Mission

To teach, promote, and perpetuate choreographed ballroom dancing as a wholesome, enjoyable recreational activity of the highest standard for the whole family. We are a Phase II-IV intermediate-level club, committed to teaching beginners and developing competent round dancers.

Our History

The Tanglefooters Dance Club began in Joplin in 1975, and we have been dancing continuously ever since.   We just celebrated our 33rd anniversary in November of 2008.  We are a member-run club, with an elected board of officers.  For more information on the history of the club and photos of some longtime club VIP's, click HERE.
